Lucky Paws Animal Foundation · Honolulu, Hawaiʻi

Helping cats should not come at the expense of your privacy. This policy explains how Lucky Paws handles personal information through our website and the rescue, donation, boarding, shopping, and communication services connected to it.

Our approach

  • We ask only for the information we need, and you choose whether to share it.
  • We do not sell or rent your information or share it for another organization’s marketing.
  • Website analytics and optional third-party embedded tools load only with your consent.
  • We explain how your information is used and when it is shared.
  • You choose whether to receive our newsletter, separately from your other activities.
  • You can contact us to ask about your information, correct it, or request its deletion.

To display pages and keep the website secure, our systems also receive basic connection information. We explain this essential processing below.

Information we use—and why

Simply browsing. Our hosting and security systems receive technical information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as an IP address, requested page, time, browser information, and error or security events. Cookies can remember your privacy choices, maintain a signed-in session, or support a shopping cart. Essential processing is separate from optional tracking.

Rescue requests, applications, and activities. When you ask for help, apply to adopt, foster, or volunteer, or register for an activity, we use the contact details and answers you provide to review the request, coordinate care, and communicate with you. Depending on the form, this can include your name, email, telephone number, address or location, household and pet information, availability, references, photographs, and other details relevant to the request. Our forms may store your responses in our website records or with an application-management service and send them to our team by email.

Please provide only information relevant to the request. Avoid including unrelated information about other people, government identification numbers, payment-card details, or sensitive personal circumstances in free-text fields or uploads. Obtain permission before supplying someone else’s private contact information as a reference. Images can contain location information; remove it if it is not needed.

Donations and sponsorships. We use donor contact information, gift amounts, designations, transaction references, and communications to process and acknowledge gifts, maintain records, and provide donor support. Payment providers handle payment credentials. We may receive limited payment details such as a payment method and transaction status. You choose separately whether to receive our newsletter.

Boarding. Our reservation service handles customer contact details, reservations, pet profiles, care instructions, vaccination documents, payment arrangements, and related communications. We use these to arrange and provide your cat’s stay. All Lucky Paws camera feeds, including the cat-hotel feeds, are recorded. Depending on the camera’s view, footage may include people as well as animals. Contact the resort about camera access or a recording that may include you; use the privacy contact below for questions about storage, retention, or access to recordings.

Shopping. Our online store uses order details, contact information, billing and delivery addresses, and payment status to complete orders, arrange fulfillment, provide support, and handle refunds or disputes. Payment and delivery services receive the information needed for their part of the order. Product reviews or comments you choose to post can be public, including the display name and content you provide.

Equipment lending. Where our trap-lending service is offered, we use borrower contact details, verification and agreement records, equipment identifiers, checkout and return history, and service messages to manage loans and protect the equipment. Verification messages and loan reminders support your loan. Marketing messages require a separate choice.

Who helps us provide these services

We do not sell or rent your information or share it for another organization’s marketing. We share information with the people and services needed to respond to you and provide the services you use.

Our team uses information relevant to its work. We may share details with a veterinarian, foster coordinator, transport volunteer, reference, or rescue partner to help with your request or an animal’s care.

We use these types of service providers:

Some providers also use information for their own purposes, such as fraud prevention, service improvement, analytics, or marketing. When you load an external feature or follow a link to another service, that provider’s privacy practices apply to its part of the experience. The feature or destination identifies the provider and provides access to its privacy information. Our website choices control the tools on our site; the provider’s controls govern its own services. You can contact us about information Lucky Paws manages.

We also share information when required by law or when reasonably needed to address fraud, protect someone’s safety, or establish or defend legal rights. We limit these disclosures to what the situation requires.

Cookies and external tools: your choices

You control optional website analytics and embedded tools. We load them with your consent. Reading a page, scrolling, or closing a notice leaves your existing choices in place. Use Cookie preferences in the footer or the floating control to review or change your choices.

External application forms, videos, and maps have a Load button beside an explanation of the provider. Clicking it enables that feature on the current page. Your analytics and newsletter choices remain separate. Use Unload or leave the page to end the embedded connection. You can also open the provider’s website directly.

Changing a choice controls future loading. Information already received by a provider and cookies already set by another domain may remain. Your browser and the provider’s privacy controls give you additional ways to manage them. Choices apply to the browser and site where you make them.

Newsletters, email, and text messages

You choose whether to receive our newsletter. That choice is separate from cookie settings, donations, applications, bookings, and purchases. When our local website signup is available, you confirm your email address before we send the signup to our newsletter service. Our website and email provider handle the information needed to deliver that confirmation.

You can unsubscribe from marketing email through the link in a message or by contacting us. You may still receive receipts and messages needed for a donation or another service you requested. Newsletter services may record delivery, opens, or clicks according to their settings and technology. These measurements are separate from your website Analytics choice.

We use your contact preferences when responding to you. Where text updates are available, the form or service explains that choice. We ask separately for permission to send marketing texts. Contact us to change your service communication preferences; some messages may be needed to complete your request.

Storage, security, and retention

Records can be held in the website database, organizational email, service-provider accounts, and backups. Our website is operated from the United States; providers may process information in other countries with different privacy laws.

Retention depends on the purpose and the record. Requests and applications may need to remain available for follow-up, animal care, placement history, or an ongoing relationship. Donation and order records may need to be kept for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, or disputes. A newsletter address is kept while subscribed; a limited unsubscribe record may remain to prevent unwanted future mail.

Retention periods vary by service and type of record. We review whether information is still needed when assessing records or handling a privacy request. Some systems require manual deletion. Backups and provider records may remain for a period after information is removed from an active system. We explain any retention limits that affect your request, including legal or operational reasons a particular record must be kept.

We use measures such as restricted access, secure connections, and maintained website protections. No online system can guarantee absolute security. Please do not send passwords or payment-card information by email or ordinary contact forms.

Your choices and privacy requests

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, request a copy or correction, request deletion, or withdraw permission for an optional use. Email info@luckypaws.org with “Privacy request” in the subject. Tell us which service you used and enough information to locate your records. We may need to verify that the request is yours; please do not send identity documents unless we explain why they are necessary and provide a suitable method.

We review requests and respond within the time required by applicable law. Some requests have limits—for example, information needed for legal obligations, another person’s privacy, an unresolved transaction, or protection against fraud. We explain any limit that applies to your request. Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may also have rights to object, restrict processing, obtain portable data, appeal a decision, or complain to a privacy regulator.

You can contact us to discuss another way to apply or ask for help. You can still request help and participate in our programs when you decline optional tracking.

Children and family participation

Our online applications, purchases, bookings, and subscriptions are intended for adults. A parent or guardian should contact us about a minor’s participation in an approved activity. Please do not submit a child’s personal information through an ordinary website form unless we have explained what is needed and arranged appropriate permission. Contact us if you believe a child has supplied information without appropriate permission.

Keeping this policy current

We review new services before using them and update this policy when our privacy practices materially change. We show the revision date so you can see when it was updated. If a new use of your information needs your permission, we ask for it. Your choices about optional tracking remain yours as the site changes.
